Book Subtitle: A Stoic glossary

Book Description: These are the most important concepts in Stoic philosophy.

Opinions are what the Stoics called the beliefs of the non-wise person, in contrast to knowledge which are the beliefs of the wise.

The Stoics argued that the quality of our beliefs determines the quality of our lives.

As Marcus Aurelius says, our mind is dyed the color of our thoughts.

Part of the reason for this is that our emotions (both passions and good emotions) are caused by our beliefs.

When insulted, if we believe ourselves to be harmed, we will be angry.

If we don't believe we have been harmed, then we will not be angry.

Greek: Doxa δόξα.
